My experience coaching the Shark FC boys in Frankadua was absolutely amazing! To be a part of their community, help in organizing their trainings and supporting them with improving their English felt so good and would recommend this for anyone. Even if you don’t have a huge amount of football knowledge it’s so great to be involved with the team and can help in so many other ways.

I’d recommend going for as long as you can to create a better connection with the players and community so you can learn yourself in what best ways you can support as of course the needs of the team and the relationship with the changing volunteers always brings something new.

As I have played football all my life it was a lot easier for me to integrate with the team and after the kids trainings I would often join the men’s team after and train myself which was unforgettable as well. I am really grateful for my time their with all the boys and the opportunity to watch them improve day by day. Going to the match days was especially special, travelling with them to their away matches in nearby towns allowed me to explore more of the region outside of the volunteers base and appreciate the joy that the Ghanaian people bring to life.

The time I spent working with Shark FC was some of the most memorable and impactful work I’ve ever done. Being able to work in such a remote part of the world with kids who can be so joyful with the cards they’ve been dealt was incredibly eye-opening and has reshaped the way I see and interact with the world around me to this day. I came in to the program knowing very little about either Ghana or football, and left with a deep admiration and respect for both. One of my favorite parts of the experience was the opportunity to live in a volunteer house with volunteers from around the world, all there for different programs, but with the shared passion to make a difference in the community. A Day In the Life of a Volunteer

Home-Cooked Breakfast
